Our Aims
Beckton Skills Centre
aims to advance the education of disadvantaged young people with limited
academic skills and those who are at risk of offending (in an area where knife
crime and gang culture are prevalent), by developing their technical,
employability and life skills, and to provide practical, recreational
activities with educational outcomes.
The centre offers
City & Guilds training courses, work placements and opportunities for
apprenticeships in the motor vehicle trade to young people, in particular those
with limited academic skills and those who have fallen into the NEET (not in
education, employment or training) category; many come from a workless family
background and are furthest from the job market.
Our objectives are to
steer young people away from crime, improve their academic and employability
skills, self-esteem and belief that they can fulfil their potential and have a
meaningful career path. Beckton Skills Centre works with local independent
schools, pupil referral units, other local training providers and employers.
The centre has been
working successfully with young people since 2013.
