CITY & GUILDS (2850) LEVEL 1 ENGINEERING

We are excited to be able to offer the City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Engineering, starting in September. Young people looking to start their career in engineering will be offered the following units:

  • Working in Engineering
  • Carrying out Mechanical Assembly
  • Carrying out Basic Turning Techniques
By studying this course, learners will achieve valuable experience and a qualification which could open up opportunities in an industry which traditionally has a skills shortage (with up to 76% of employers in the engineering sector unable to recruit for key roles), such as:

  • engineering operative
  • engineering maintenance technician
  • foundry moulder
  • mechanical engineering technician
  • sheet metal worker
  • toolmaker
  • welder
During the course, you'll explore topics such as:

  • health and safety in engineering environments
  • engineering materials and their applications
  • 3D printing
  • using a metalwork lathe to create a component to meet specifications
You'll have the opportunity to:

  • gain hands-on experience in engineering workshops
  • develop confidence using tools and machinery
  • Build your English and maths skills to support your technical learning
  • explore sustainable practices and modern technologies used in engineering
  • prepare for progression to a Level 2 qualification or an engineering apprenticeship
